Egypt is made up of a vast desert stretching as far as Libya and Arabia, and a narrow strip of land fed by the Nile, the river of life, a long stem that opens in flower at the foot of the necropolises, bathed by the Mediterranean. Its history is as long and eventful as the mythical Nile itself, and its course stretches over more than three millennia!

Kheops, (the largest built around 2650 BC), one of the 7 wonders of Antiquity and the only one to have stood the test of time. For over 40 centuries, it was the tallest man-made monument, standing 146 metres high,
Khephren, the pyramid of Khephren appears higher than that of Kheops, but in reality it is slightly lower, due to its steeper angle of inclination and its location on slightly higher ground,
Mykerinos, the tomb of King Mykerinos, is much smaller than the other two pyramids, standing 66 metres high,
The Sphinx (lion with Pharaoh's head), enigmatic guardian of the tombs and temple, facing east to protect the tombs from looters. It is 73 metres long and 20 metres high, carved from a single block of stone.
- Visit a perfume store, where you'll be enchanted by the scents of the perfumes and their blown-glass bottles. Then stop off at a papyrus institute, where you'll see how papyrus is made.
The papyrus stem is peeled and cut into strips, which are then soaked in water for 6 hours to soften them. They are then criss-crossed and pressed. The sugar and starch contained in the stalks solidify the whole into a flexible, resistant material, reputed to be tear-proof. Once dry, papyrus is ready to be used as a medium for writing or painting.
- Lunch on the way.
- Visit to the National Museum of Antiquities, whose treasures range from the prehistoric age to the Roman period. Among the treasures on display is the famous Tutankhamen treasure. Home to over 250,000 pieces, it is one of the world's largest museums. It allows visitors to discover the history of ancient Egypt over 5 millennia.

Day 3 – Cairo / Luxor (08/11/2025)

- Depart for the Nile crossing to visit the Theban Necropolis.
- The Valley of the Kings, where you'll visit the tombs of two kings and one queen.
From the 18th dynasty onwards, and throughout the New Kingdom, pharaohs were no longer buried in temples or monuments dedicated to their final journey. Thutmose I and all the pharaohs who followed him decided to be buried on the other side of the Nile, on the west bank, in the land of the Beyond. Gone were the colossal monuments such as the pyramids, or even the Mastabas used under the Old Kingdom, but rather vaults dug right into the rock, with access scrupulously sealed and camouflaged. The main motivation was undoubtedly to escape grave robbers.
Stop at the Colossi of Memnon, the only funerary monuments of Amenophis III. Renowned for their imposing architecture, these remains have been visited by emperors and travellers of all eras. Standing 18 m high and weighing 1,300 tons, they were named the Colossi of Memnon by the Greeks after the legend of the Oracle of Memnon.
- Lunch on board.
OPTIONAL: Visit to the Temple of Medinet Habou (included in “EXCURSION PACKAGE 1”).
- Visit to the temple of Medinet Habou.
Medinet Habou is the Arabic name of the site the Egyptians called Djémé. The funerary temple of Ramses III is the finest example of monumental art under the Ramessides. The last great builder of ancient Egypt, the pharaoh reopened the great construction sites abandoned since Ramesses II, and built the vast royal temple of Médinet-Habou, south of the Theban necropolis.
Ramses III built his Castle of Millions of Years, the largest group of ancient Egyptian remains after Karnak, on the site of one of the earliest Theban religious sites, closely associated with the cult of Amun.

It is dedicated to HORUS, the falcon-headed god, son of ISIS and OSIRIS. You enter the temple through the great pylon, decorated with huge reliefs showing the king and the gods, into the courtyard, whose walls recount the various rites performed by the king. Two large black granite falcons, representing the god HORUS, guard the temple entrance.

Day 5 – CRUISE Kom Ombo / Assouan (10/11/2025)
- Breakfast on board.

“Two temples in one, unique in ancient Egypt”. It was built in the Ptolemaic period (Ptolemaic dynasty, Greco-Roman period) on the site of a New Kingdom temple (dedicated to Thutmose III, 18th dynasty). It stands on a hilltop 15 metres above the Nile. Its most astonishing feature is that it is dedicated to 2 distinct divinities: the falcon god HAROERIS, “HORUS the Great”, sometimes called “HORUS the Ancient”, and SOBEK, the crocodile god. This temple is all about duality: it has two entrances, two parallel corridors, symmetrically arranged halls on either side of these corridors, all meeting at the double sanctuary. On the esplanade in front of the entrance, sculpted columns reveal shimmering colors. The small building to the right of the entrance is Hathor's chapel, housing a number of crocodile mummies.
- Lunch on board.

the Temple of Hathor.

A mini-cruise in a felucca is the only way to reach the left bank and the Kitchener and Elephantine islands, real jewels of the river. Let yourself be lulled by the breeze and sail through the calm blue waters of the age-old Nile. Stop off on Kitchener Island for a visit to its famous botanical garden, where the finest varieties of plants and trees attract countless birds. You'll marvel at the royal palms, sycamores and ebony trees in this sumptuous floral park.

OPTIONAL: Sound and Light Show at Philae Temple (€55).
Day 7 – CRUISE Assouan / Edfu (12/11/2025)
- Breakfast on board.
- Visit to the temple of Philae on the island of Agilka, nicknamed the “Pearl of the Nile”.
After Nasser built the Aswan High Dam in the 1960s, the island of Philae, upstream from the Nile's first cataract, was completely covered by water. With UNESCO's help, work was undertaken to dismantle Philae's monuments piece by piece and reassemble them on the neighbouring island, 400 metres downstream. Philae was entirely dedicated to Isis, and this Ptolemaic temple (Ptolemaic dynasty, Greco-Roman period) has preserved its Naos, the stone tabernacle housing the statue of the divinity.

The day is devoted to a visit to one of the two world-famous temples, both dedicated to the god Amun-Ra, master of the gods and Lord of the Theban triad: the Temple of Karnak.
The most theological temple ever built here over 2000 years, the faith of mankind has paid homage to the same god: Amon. The greatest kings (Sethi I, Ramses II, Thutmosis III, Ramses III) succeeded one another here. The name “Karnak”, meaning “fortress”, dates from the Islamic conquest.
- Visit to an alabaster sculpture workshop.
In ancient Egypt, alabaster was highly prized, used for everyday accessories such as ointment and perfume vases, but also for canopic vases, containing the organs of the deceased, extracted during the mummification rite. It's easy to work and produces objects of beautiful transparency; cut into thin sheets, alabaster is sufficiently transparent to be used as glass for small windows.
OPTIONAL: Visit Luxor Temple (included in “EXCURSION PACKAGE 1”, €75).
- Visit Luxor Temple.
- It was built to glorify the god Amun Re, who celebrated his wedding anniversary with his wife Mut every year. The procession left the temple at Karnak and followed the banks of the Nile to Luxor Temple. Construction of the latter dates back to the reign of the two pharaohs Amenhotep III and Ramses II. Two obelisks adorned the entrance: they were donated to France in 1831 by Mehemet Ali; one is still in situ, the other stands on Place de la Concorde in Paris.
